Transient Melody

A city is an abundance of sensory experience. Sight, smell, and sound construct our understanding of place; each neighborhood a unique fingerprint on a body of man-made roads and natural landmarks. Songwriter/composer Chris Koza (of the band Rogue Valley) has created an evolving soundtrack that drifts around the chain of lakes and hovers along the greenway in Uptown Minneapolis. Transient Melody is an interactive overlay of instrumental compositions that shift with location and subtly adjust depending on speed, weather, and time of day. Musically, the soundtrack is inspired by classical composers such as Chopin and Satie, early Kraftwerk, and contemporary artists like Helios and Ratatat. Emotionally, the music considers the many uses this part of the city has for a broad spectrum of people: walkers, runners, cyclists, writers, artists, thinkers, and others who are invigorated and revitalized amidst the careful balance of neighborhood and nature. Transient Melody is the song that hums along with its surroundings; a playful yet thoughtful musical augmentation that suggests an understanding of place goes beyond what is seen, smelled, and heard – that a place, like a person, is a rich and changing organism with untold layers of information awaiting discovery. www.chriskoza.com/transientmelody
