beyond the LOOP
beyond the LOOP combines aerial acrobatics, media manipulation, dance, and social media to explore our dreams of wanting more for our cities.
A rope is suspended amid a circled crowd. Moving purposefully, two women approach the center with their ancestral narratives. Aerial curtains and sheer fabric panels reflect projected representations of episode-specific characters, environments, cinema, and lighting. The sound of a stringed instrument rises above the murmuring crowd. One woman raises herself on the rope while the other woman twirls and moves into infinity. The music momentarily synchronizes their movement, but they are clearly independent thinkers. Their motion reveals their interdependence. These two individuals come together, coalescing in movement and ascending through vertical space. Audience members are encouraged to take photographs and videos while moving around, seeking various vantage points.
In thirty minutes everything stops. Messages have been delivered. Seeds have been planted. Questions have been posed. The crowd disperses; some linger for conversation, perhaps an exchange of viewpoints. Variations of this scenario repeat hourly during the night, pausing at sunrise.
